Tamales are a traditional Mesoamerican dish that has been enjoyed for centuries. They consist of masa (a dough made from nixtamalized corn) filled with various ingredients such as pork, chicken, fruits, vegetables, and your choice of green or red salsa, wrapped in a corn leaf and steamed.
Tamales can be salty or sweet, depending on the fillings. They are often enjoyed during special occasions, festivals, or as a comfort food.
Traditional Drink
Sweet tamales: Pineapple or raisins.
Atole is a traditional Mexican hot drink made from corn masa (corn flour) mixed milk, and sweetened with sugar. It's often flavored with vanilla and cinamon.
Rice or strawberry atole
Salty tamales: Chicken, pork, beef or veggie in green or red salsa.
